The Carolina Theatre in Charlotte,

NC is an historic American theater

built in 1927 as part of Paramount’s

Publix Theatre chain. Exterior facade

was designed by 28202’s preeminent

architect, C.C. Hook, who was designer

The Duke Mansion: a Charlotte historic

Greek revival City’s interior, decorated to

evoke the illusion of the open air Spanish

patio overlooking azure skies of Mediterranean,

was created by the atmospheric theatre designer

R.E. Hall of New York. It was a young construction

company, J.A. Jones, built the theater for the Publix

franchise owner, the Cutter family.

The theatre opened with great fanfare on March 7, 1927

and the Charlotte Observer produced a 14 page document

commemorated opening the theatre. The Observer had many

facts and ads congratulating the opening of the theatre the next

day. The Carolina was a small movie palace adorned with many of

the same type of amenities of some of its larger theatre cousins. Air

conditioning; one of extras that the theatre had to offer patrons; most

people hadn’t even heard of air conditioning at the time. Beautiful “egg

& dart” molding, made of plaster adorned the entire ceiling while an eight

rank Wurlitzer organ played music to go along with the latest silent film.

In 1938, the theatre had a major overhaul; the air conditioner was

replaced, larger seats installed projectors, sound equipment were

put in and the murals were replaced. The new murals were put on

acoustic tiles to help the patrons hear the new “talkies” with more

clarity. The acoustics were so lively; the dialog could not be easily

Throughout the years, the Carolina Theatre was the focal point for

live entertainment in the Charlotte region… Road shows, musicals

and other forms of entertainment brought such stars as Bob Hope,

Guy Lombardo, Tommy Dorsey, Tom MiX, Jimmy Stewart,

Andy Griffith, Katharine Hepburn, Tallulah Bankhead,

Frank Sinatra and ELVIS showed twice we heard, his

sone, from Germany, played same stage only twice.

Deuteronomy 33:27

Rest knowing all is so safe in My Hands.

Rest is Trust. Ceaseless activity is distrust.

Without the knowledge that I am working for

you, you do not rest. Inaction will be despair.

My Hand is not shortened that it cannot save.

Know that, repeat it, rely on it, welcome the

knowledge, delight in it. Such truth is hope

flung to a drowning man.

Every repetition of it is one pull nearer shore and safety.

Let that illustration teach you a great truth. Do lay hold of the

truth, pray it, affirm it, hold on to the rope. Oh, how foolish are

your attempts to save yourself… one hand on the rope, and one

making efforts to swim ashore! You may relinquish your hold of the

rope and hinder the rescuer

..– who has to act with the greater caution lest he lose you-..

The storms and tempests are not all of life.

The Psalmist said

“All thy waves and thy billows are gone over me”

“He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of

miry clay,

and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings.”

Meditate upon this wonderful truth…And the three steps safety,

(1) “He brought me up also out of an horrible pit”

– Safety –

(2) “He set my feet upon a rock”

– Security

(3) “He established my goings”

– Guidance.

is the final stage when saved souls trust Me entirely. It seeks

no more, its own way, but leaves all future plans to Me its Rescuer.

    Daily Life Lesson

    Knowledge without understanding is
    useless. Understanding what you do
it allow you to help yourself and others.
Knowing how to fish is great but knowing
what to do with the fish is very much more
    important. Knowledge makes you smart
    but understanding makes you human.
No one is perfect and as much as it
hurts, not even you. Even a smart
man in the world is useless if he
doesn’t understand how to share that knowledge.
